After 2 years without an open gardens due to Covid-19 we are excited to be returning. This is one of our largest charity events of the year. All proceeds go towards providing enriched, fulfilled and happy lives to adults with learning disabilities supported by The Grange (2016) Ltd.
The Grange garden was carefully cultivated by, Collingwood Ingram, nicknamed Cherry Ingram due to his dedication to ornamental cherry trees.
Cherry Ingram was responsible for reintroducing the great white flowering cherry tree, 'Taihaku' back to Japan, where it had previously died out.
The tree he used for this still stands proudly in the garden today along with a number of fascinating trees and plants, including his original hybrid cherry tree, 'Kursar', an Atlas Cedar tree taken as a seedling from the Atlas mountains and a 'yakushimanum' rhododendron.
We take advice from Cherry experts about when to host the Open Gardens, we cannot guarantee the amount of blossom you will see during your visit. We hope that the weather is kind in the lead up to the event so you can enjoy maximum blossom!
In a change to previous years, we are limiting the admissions. 30 tickets are available at 30 minute intervals to ensure the safety of the people we support, our visitors and volunteers.
Please note that the time slots are just arrival times, time within the gardens is not limited. You are able to enjoy the gardens for as long as you wish!
Early birds can also book a VIP Tour of the gardens at 10am with Chris Lane, who runs Witch Hazel Nursery in Kent, maintaining five National Plant Collections. He has worked as a college lecturer, serves on the RHS Woody Plant Committee and has been president of the International Plant Propagators' Society. He is author of Witch Hazels (RHS / Timber Press 2005) and co-author with James Compton of Wisteria The Complete Guide (RHS 2019). VIP tour guests will also receive a copy of the book, written by Naoko Abe.
Please note that there is no onsite parking. Benenden Primary School have been kind enough to allow us use of their car park. Please use this or park within the local area.
Please access the gardens at the entrance from The Green, TN17 4DN.
*Please note only 30 tickets are available for each time slot* If a time slot has reached maximum capacity we will contact you to suggest an alternate time.
